Saudi Arabia's food import authority is the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). It maintains a list of approved countries of origin and approved slaughter establishments. Indian buffalo meat is on the approved list when shipped from SFDA-listed plants. Buyers should confirm plant approval before placing an order.
Arabic labelling is mandatory on inner packs for retail. Bulk cartons for wholesale or manufacturing may carry English labels in some classifications, but the accompanying documentation must include Arabic product description. The Halal certificate must come from an SFDA-accepted certifying body.
Saudi Arabia accepts frozen boneless buffalo at −18°C core. Shelf life from production to the expiry date must meet the stated standard on the label. Port of entry inspection can include microbiological sampling. Consistent cold-chain maintenance from blast freeze to discharge reduces rejection risk.
A notable operational point: Saudi customs checks are thorough on label-to-document matching. Product name, cut name and net weight on the carton must exactly match the invoice, packing list and health certificate. Discrepancies slow clearance substantially.
